About Us
Based at the Fusiliers Museum in Bury, the Band and Drum Corps of the Royal Regiment of Fusiliers (Lancashire) was founded by its late president Lieutenant Col (Rtd) Eric Davidson MBE DL to keep alive the tradition of the former constituent regiments; The Lancashire Fusiliers XX and The Royal Regiment of Fusiliers. The band has currently around 25 members with the drums numbering around 15. All the members serve in a voluntary capacity and have no territorial or reserve army commitment. The uniform proudly worn is that of the regular regiment which has its headquarters in the Tower of London. The band performs regularly in the local area and at venues across the UK including the Tower of London and the National Arboretum. They entertain regularly at military functions and dinners and have produced two CD’s.The band and drums have twice been guests at the Hamilton Military Tattoo in Canada where they performed with the pipe band of the sister regiment Lorne Scots and as part of the massed bands. The band has previously toured in Belgium. Events included playing in the Market Square in Bruges and the square outside the Cloth Hall and In Flanders Museum in Ypres.A highlight for the band was participation in the poignant Menin Gate Last Post Ceremony. The band were well-received by local people and visitors to Talbot House (TOC H) in Poperinge which was used as a British soldier's club during the first world war and the tour finished with an emotional laying of two wreaths at Prowse Point Cemetery where the remains of men whose bodies have been discovered in recent times in or near the Ploegsteert Wood have been reburied.Another tour saw the band visiting the coastal town of Caen in Normandy, France where they performed at venues including the museum at Arromanches, Rouen and Honfleur and enjoyed visits to local places of interest. In addition the band have a full set of fanfare trumpets which have featured in events such at the rugby finals at Wembley and Old Trafford and the Mayor-making ceremonies each year in Bury.
